Federal wildlife officials are continuing efforts to control wolf packs that are preying on domestic livestock in Sublette County this summer. There are two main packs targeted: Green River and Prospect Mountain.

Wolves have killed at least two calves and injured two others in the Upper Green River region this month, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has authorized USDA Wildlife Services to kill the wolf pack involved. There are five or six adults and pups in this pack.

The other problem area is south of Boulder where the Prospect Mountain pack roams. This pack has preyed on domestic sheep in the area, killing or wounding more than a dozen animals. Five wolves have been killed so far, but control efforts are ongoing. There are at least two more adults (one wearing a radio collar), and pups remaining.

Both of the wolf packs involved (the Green River and Prospect packs) have histories of chronic livestock depredations.
