Devan LaMere qualifies for Junior Olympics
February 25, 2013
Pinedale student, Devan LaMere has qualified to compete on the Intermountain Division (IMD) team at the 2013 Western Region Championships, also known as the Junior Olympics (JO’s), to be held at Alyeska, Alaska March 19 – 23, 2013.
IMD is one of 5 divisions in the Western Region, and consists of athletes from Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming. The IMD team will be competing against the our other divisions of the Western Region, which includes athletes from Montana, California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii. There are three Regions in the United States: Western Region, Rocky/Central Region, and Eastern Region. This is where athletes start the long and hard journey towards World Cup ski racing and the Olympics. Only a handful of athletes make it to the top. Competitors that do well at the JO’s will have opportunities to compete at the national level.
Women IMD athletes participate in three qualifying races held in Sun Valley, Idaho; McCall, Idaho; and Park City, Utah to qualify for the JO’s. Devan has one more qualifier in Park City, Utah March 1-3, but has already qualified, currently in 5th position, out of 22 women to be selected for the IMD team. She is also the only athlete from Wyoming to have qualified.
Traveling to Alaska and competing in the Junior Olympics is an expensive endeavor, and Devan is looking for sponsors to help her fund this opportunity. If interested in sponsoring Devan, please contact her at: PO Box 1461, Pinedale, WY 83941 or call 307-367-2836. ____________________________________________
