One of the Albert Bierstadt photographs is of a wagon train on the Lander Cutoff of the Oregon Trail crossing the Big Sandy River in 1859. That crossing is today known as Buckskin Crossing on the Big Sandy-Elkhorn Road #23-118 in Sublette County. This is one of the oldest known photographs taken in Sublette County. This glass plate stereograph was recently donated to the Museum to add to their collection of artifacts related to the Lander Trail. |
