Albert Bierstadt brought a stereo wet-plate camera with him when he traveled west to the Green River Valley with Frederick Lander’s military expedition in 1859. This was the newest photography technology at the time, which used a camera that captures two images on chemically coated piece of plate glass to create a double image negative, prints of which can be viewed in a stereograph viewer as a 3-D image. |
