Camp Creek Prescribed Burn part of aspen restoration project
BLM controlled burn in the Wyoming Range
by Bureau of Land Management
June 5, 2013

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) High Desert District (HDD) anticipates optimal burn conditions and will initiate a 230 acre prescribed fire in the 3,523 acre Camp Creek project area along the Wyoming Range Front beginning this Sunday, weather permitting (Editor’s note: This burn was started on Wednesday, June 5th).

The Camp Creek project area is located between South Cottonwood Creek and Beecher Creek along the BLM and U.S. Forest Service boundary, approximately 20 miles northwest of Big Piney, Wyoming.

The prescribed fire is part of the 9,000 acre Wyoming Front Aspen Restoration Project (WFARP) in Sublette and Lincoln counties and is a continuation of the 2011 Camp Creek burn. The WFARP is a multi-year joint effort by the BLM and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation to improve forest health and wildlife habitat in aspen and aspen-mixed conifer stands. The prescribed fire will also reduce existing fuel loads and improve fuel breaks to reduce the potential for catastrophic wildfires.

Outdoor enthusiasts are advised to avoid the area during fire operations. For more information, please contact Greg Reser, HDD natural resource specialist for fire and fuels, at 307-367-5350.
