The current issue of the Jackson Hole News & Guide has an article about grizzly bear/livestock conflicts in the Upper Green River region, and Wyoming House District 20 Representative and local Hereford cattle producer Albert Sommers is featured prominently.

The article details how many grizzly bears have been removed or relocated from the Upper Green grazing allotments due to repeated livestock depredations on cattle and sheep herds. The Upper Green River cattle grazing allotment is the largest public lands grazing allotment in the U.S. National Forest system, and is located on the Bridger-Teton National Forest.

In the article, Sommers is quoted as explaining that with a grizzly bear population that has expanded in both range and numbers, there will be conflicts with livestock. He deems the system a success, acknowledging that with both wild and domestic species co-existing, there will be livestock losses, as well as bear losses.
