Encana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc. contributed $4,000 to the Pregnancy Resource Center of Sublette County for its Client Services program. Encana USA’s donation will specifically support the Cribs for Kids curriculum, which teaches parents about the importance of safe sleep habits for babies.
"The Pregnancy Resource Center helps restore and empower young parents through education, guidance and attentive care," said Bridget Ford, Encana USA community relations advisor. "Decisions impacting family wellness can be difficult and sometimes unaccommodating, so it’s incredible that the Center not only helps new parents develop effective skills, but also provides motivation and tangible incentives to complete the classes."
Families who complete the Cribs for Kids program will receive a free Graco Pack n’ Play Crib.
Encana USA’s contribution also helped fund the PRC’s First Annual Fundraising Banquet. "Having Encana’s financial support is extremely important," said Holly Madole, PRC CEO and executive director. "It enables us to raise more funds and allow more people to attend, which ultimately increases our awareness and produces volunteers, clients, broader community involvement and donors."
The Banquet is in line with the PRC strategic goal of becoming self-sufficient by increasing the number of monthly and yearly donors. The Banquet was held at the Sublette County Library in Pinedale on October 10. Gordan Douglas was the distinguished speaker and guests learned more about the PRC and its future goals.
Aimed to equip and enable young parents to make positive choices, the Pregnancy Resource Center provides emotional support, financial assistance, life skill classes, pregnancy tests and material assistance (diapers, formula, car seats) to families facing an unplanned or first-time pregnancy.
"All services provided by the PRC are free and confidential," stated Madole. "This year, we have served more than 70 adults, children and newborns. Since 2008, the PRC has helped more than 900 individuals take part in Earn While You Learn classes, Cribs for Kids classes, pregnancy tests and Pregnancy Loss and Post-Abortion Support."
The Client Services program is DVD-based and encompasses Earn While You Learn Prenatal, Parenting and Life Skills, a program that helps new parents become self-sufficient. The program provides education on prenatal care, parenting (infant- age four toddler) and life skills (money management, tips for interviewing and writing a resume, finding housing and time management).
The PRC is also in the process of introducing a new Earn While You Learn program designed specifically for fathers. "The Practical Fatherhood Pack provides dads with information on being role models, having respect for mothers, guidelines for discipline and the importance of being consistent," explained Madole.
A committed supporter of programs that promote wellness and enhance health care, Encana USA has contributed more than $41,000 to the PRC.
"Encana’s support has been essential to the diligence of our organization," said Madole. "Their continued support has allowed us to grow and maintain our program services, and we look forward to forming new partnerships at our first fundraiser to continuing our mission."
