Pinedale considers downtown lighting

The Pinedale Town Council will hear options about the Main Street Lighting Project at their next Town Council meeting on Monday, Nov. 25th and are expected to select a package to for downtown lighting retro-fits, canopy lighting and some decorative lighting.
The Town held a public meeting in late October to present the latest updates on the project and offer lighting choices for the public to select what they liked best. At that meeting, Planning & Zoning Administrator/Main Street Pinedale coordinator Kate Dahl said the reason the Town is pursuing this is because downtown lighting has consistently come up as a topic of concern from residents in past comprehensive planning meeting input. The October meeting was attended by 19 interested citizens.

Dahl said, "Options will be presented to Council at Monday's meeting, with the expected result of them selecting a package to move forward."
In an email sent out to interested public by the Town, the key points are:
1. All proposed street lighting would be energy efficient LED's.
2. LED will save $$ in both energy costs and maintenance
3. The Town currently has enough budgeted to complete retro-fits, canopy lighting, and provide some decorative lighting downtown, additional grants are available to cover more phases with minimal match from the Town general fund.
4. To address the conflict with street lights and the canopies/awnings downtown (no room b/w curb and posts, canopy block lights), recessed lighting under the canopies that span the sidewalk is proposed. It is proposed that the Town pay for the lights and installation while the property owner pays the electricity bill. Switching to LED is estimated to save properties on AVERAGE $21 annually on the electricity bill (if you have existing lights), and only cost on average $6.40/yr (this is with leaving the lights on longer than business hours).
