January 5, 2014
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Pinedale Field Office (PFO) is seeking volunteers to conduct a midwinter bald eagle survey on Saturday, Jan. 11. A meeting for interested volunteers will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the PFO, 1625 W. Pine St., Pinedale, Wyo. Instructions will be given for survey methods and eagle identification and survey routes will be assigned. Two-person observation teams are needed so that one person can safely drive while the other observes and documents eagles. Every January since 1979, volunteers have counted bald eagles throughout the U.S. By monitoring and estimating national and regional count trends, an index of the total winter bald eagle population in the lower 48 states has been established.
