‘War Stories of a Wyoming Sheriff’
New book by former Sublette County Sheriff Hank Ruland
January 18, 2014
Sublette County resident and former Sheriff, Hank Ruland has written a book sharing some stories from his thirty-three year law enforcement career. Ruland first ran and served a term as Sheriff for Sublette County in 1975 at the age of 27, becoming one of the youngest sheriff’s ever elected. He left the area for awhile and then returned and served a long career in law enforcement. He later ran and was elected to the office of Sublette County Sheriff again 20 years later in 1995.
The book includes humorous and enlightening episodes plus factual serious matters that came across his desk and out in the field, including how some of the small town politics played out in Sublette County, Wyoming and having to use the only resources they had on hand. There are stories about murders in the Upper Green, searches, handling death scenes, lawsuits, drug investigations, people who influenced his life, and more.
Long-time friend Gina Pape Feltner, who encouraged him to write up his stories of his years as Sheriff, wrote the forward for the book.
