Traditionally, EMS Week has been set aside nationally, to celebrate and honor the hundreds of thousands of EMS practitioners who serve our communities. This year, our local EMT's have decided to host some opportunities for you to become Cardiac Aware!
Would you be surprised to know that more women die of cardiovascular disease than from the next four causes of death combined, including all forms of cancer? It is the number one killer of women in America, according to the American Heart Association, at Go Red For Women (GoRedForWomen.org), and stroke is the number 3 cause of death. This is a killer disease that takes a hind seat in many people's minds to other forms of death.
We are kick-starting a campaign to change these statistics in our community. The Sublette County Emergency Medical Services will be hosting four opportunities for you to become cardiac aware. Handouts will be available focusing on, but not limited to, women and cardiovascular health. We will also be providing free, baseline electrocardiograms (ECGs) for you to take to your primary care physician so it can become part of your health record. Ultra Petroleum is sponsoring this event through a generous donation.
Recently, our community lost yet another young person to cardiovascular disease. In memory of Ms. Cally McKee, the schedule for these events will be:
In Pinedale:
Tuesday, May 20th at PAC from 10 am to 1 pm
Wednesday, May 21st at Pinedale Community Church from 4-6:30 pm
Thursday, May 22nd at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church from 4-6:30 pm
In Big Piney/Marbleton:
Wednesday, May 21st at the EMS Facility from 10 am to 1 pm
