DiCaprio, Inarritu win Oscars for ‘The Revenant’
Academy Awards for Best Actor and Best Directing; movie also wins Best Cinematography

The 88th Academy Awards were held on Sunday, February 28th in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. The Academy Awards (commonly referred to as Oscars) was hosted by Actor Chris Rock.
For those following the awards for the new movie, "The Revenant," about fur trapper Hugh Glass who was mauled by a grizzly bear in 1823, here is how the film fared for awards.
Leonardo DiCaprio, who played Hugh Glass, won Best Actor. Director Alejandro Inarritu won Best Director. Only two other Hollywood directors have won two straight best director Oscars: John Ford in 1941 and 1942 and Joseph Mankiewicz in 1950 and 1951. Inarritu won the best director and best picture Oscars last year for "Birdman." Emmanuel Lubezki won the Best Cinematography award for his stunning photography for The Renevant. The Revenant received 12 Oscar nominations.
On January 10th, "The Revenant" won the award for best Motion Picture Drama at the Golden Globe Awards. Leonardo DiCaprio took the award as Best Actor and Alejandro G. Iñárritu took the Golden Globe award for Best Motion Picture Director.
The Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale is excited about this new movie that highlights the early 1800s fur trade. While the movie is a fictionalized account based on a novel, there are threads of truth to the real story in the movie. They hope there will be renewed interest and excitement about the fur trade era. They plan to have a new life-size 3-D diorama depicting a grizzly bear attack as their new feature exhibit when they open for the summer May 1st. Friend and historical consultant to the Museum, Clay Landry, had the honor to serve as a wilderness consultant during production of the film. Landry helped the cast and crew with the authenticity of the clothing, arms, and weaponry used in the film. Landry will be the special guest speaker at the Museum of the Mountain Man in May for the Sublette County Historical Society’s annual meeting and Spring Thaw Party. His talk will be, "The Making of The Revenant - A Compromise Between Historical Fact and Art." The Spring Thaw Party starts at 6PM at the Museum for the cocktail hour social and business meeting. Landry’s talk begins at 7PM. Everyone welcome.
