Boulder, Wyoming cattle rancher Tom Johnston has been in the news lately because of his work as the "master of snow" for Alpine skiing events at the World Cup downhill ski event in South Korea. For months he has been directing a crew of Koreans on how to lay down the track with artificial snow, grooming the surface, then shaping the terrain and jumps according to World Cup standards.

Johnston is the chief of race for ski events at the 2018 Winter Olympics which will be held in South Korea and is responsible for preparing the snow to world-class conditions at the 2018 Games.

He has prepared ski courses at World Cup races, at last season's world championships in Beaver Creek, Colorado, at the 2002 Salt Lake City Games, and the 2014 Sochi Games. He was referred to as Tom "Cowboy" Johnston on MSN Sports Network during the televised FIS Alpine World Cup skiing in South Korea, which was an Alpine test event for the 2018 Games.
