Clay Landry: Behind the scenes in the making of the movie ‘The Revenant’
March 10, 2016
Fur trade historian Clay Landry was the special guest speaker at the Sublette County Historical Society’s Annual Meeting & Spring Thaw Party at the Museum of the Mountain Man on Thursday, March 10th. Landry talked about his experiences working on the award-winning hit Hollywood movie about mountain man Hugh Glass, called "The Revenant." Clay got a chance of a lifetime to work as a "wilderness consultant" putting together a "boot camp" for the actors showing them how to shoot muzzleloading rifles and wilderness skills, and making sure as much of the visual aspect of the movie was as historically correct as possible. He said even though much of the storyline isn’t true to what is known about the exact history, he did what he could to try to get them to be as authentic as possible. He said he has done dozens of interviews since the movie came out and hopes that means there is a surge of interest in that period of history, and hopefully there will be a bump in people coming to visit the Museum of the Mountain Man this summer.
