by Sublette County School District #1
March 31, 2016
Congratulations are in order for Mitch Irrgang who has just been named as the Sublette County School District #1 Teacher of the Year for 2017. This selection allows Mitch to be submitted to the state this fall as our nominee for consideration in the "Wyoming Teacher of the Year 2016-2017" process.
Mitch is a 2000 graduate of Montana State University in Bozeman with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Studies/History and holds a Wyoming Teaching Certificate with endorsements in World History, US History, Earth and Space Science, and Middle School. Mitch has coached various sports along the way, but settled into being the History Day Sponsor for the last many years.
Mitch met his wife after arriving in Pinedale as a Social Studies Teacher in 2001. Amanda came to us in 2007, and is currently a first grade teacher at Pinedale Elementary School. They have one son and two daughters.
Mitch grew up in Bloomington, Minnesota and chose the teaching profession after having had many experiences in the Minneapolis School District, where his Dad was the Business Manager, serving as a "Fill All" substitute – filling in for everything from School Nurse to teacher. Mitch enjoyed his experiences with students, with learning, and with teaching.
Mitch loves his teaching career and mostly enjoys sharing his love for history with his students, reading historical stories and events with his students, and creating relationships with his students. He noted that it is awesome that one of his students, Broc Seipp, has now come back to Pinedale Middle School as a colleague. "How cool is that?"
Mitch came to us right out of college, but now loves being in this small community raising his children. He says he loves the small town atmosphere and getting to know each other. He spends his free time with his beautiful wife and children and loves to go fishing, hunting, skiing, biking and anything else in the out-of-doors! Mitch says "There is no place I’d rather be."
