Casting for Recovery is a fly fishing retreat program for women with breast cancer. These retreats offer opportunities for women to find inspiration, discover renewed energy for life and experience healing connections with other women and nature.
"Here in Wyoming we do one retreat a year for any age, any stage," said Mary Turney. "We totally run the program through donations. We have put 70 Wyoming women through the program since 2011."
Steven Sanders started the dash on crutches and awhile later he crossed under the finish arch with a smile on his face. "I fractured my foot and tore some tendons three days ago," he said. "I've always been a dork, so I decided to gut it out. My motto is, Do or do not...there is no try."
Tony Wissroecker, director of the Color Dash tour, said there were over 200 official participants in this event. "In L.A. we had 2000. In Perham, Minnesota which has a population of 4000, we had 800 participants.
Facts to ponder: 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Casting for Recovery has conducted 535 retreats in 46 states nationwide and served 7000 women.
