Three months after California confirmed the presence of its first wolf pack, state officials have now confirmed the pack’s first livestock depredation on cattle. While officials were investigating the depredation on cattle, a wolf remained nearby. Although wolves are an endangered species in California (pursuant to both federal and state laws) state agencies have no program in place to compensate for livestock losses to wolves. The cattle owner has now moved his cattle out of the area.
