The Pinedale Fine Arts Council (PFAC) presented The Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Company on Friday, October 13 in the Pinedale Auditorium. Cleo Parker Robinson Dance is an international, cross-cultural, dance-arts and educational institution rooted in African American traditions. In their return to Pinedale, the dance troupe based in Denver presented two new works "MiclanRx" and "Bamboula."
MictlanRx (Mictlan defined as a traditional place of the dead) showcases the life and struggles of indigenous and Afro-Mexican people by combinging combines sounds and rhythms extracted from Afro-Mexican traditional music, bridging the vast cultures of Mexico’s Pacific and Atlantic coastal regions. Bamboula emerges from choreographer Millicent Johnnie’s research into the connections between the Zulu minstrel parades of New Orleans and the Minstrel Carnival in Cape Town, South Africa.
The performance is funded in part with support from the Wyoming Arts Council through funding from the Wyoming Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts which believes a great nation deserves great art, the New England Federation for the Arts, Sublette BOCES, SCSD #1, Western Sublette BOCES #9, the Sublette County Recreation Board, the Wyoming Community Foundation - Sublette, Tegeler & Associates, Ultra, Andeavor, 1st Bank & Rocky Mountain Power Foundation.
