The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office has been getting a lot of questions lately about how to obtain title to an abandoned vehicle.

Vehicles must be left on the owner’s property for at least 30 consecutive days to be considered abandoned. Per Wyoming State Statute 31-13-101(a)(x)(C) an abandoned vehicles is defined as any vehicle left unattended or unclaimed on private property for more than thirty (30) days without the oral or written consent of the owner or the person in lawful possession or control of the property or for more than thirty (30) days after the expiration of the oral or written consent.

If the property owner wishes to obtain title to the vehicle, an Application for Abandoned Vehicle Identification Request should be picked up in the Sheriff’s Office. Stop in and visit with a Sheriff’s Office Clerk and they will be happy to help you through the entire process.

When buying a used vehicle or trailer that can be registered and driven on the road the Clerk’s office needs the following information to register your vehicle:

- Signed Bill of Sale
- Signed and notarized Title
