An avalanche closed US 191 in Hoback Canyon between Bondurant and Jackson in western Wyoming for several hours on Tuesday, January 14th. The slide happened around 4:30PM and was on the south end of the canyon. In this picture, apparently the vehicle came upon the slide but was unable to stop in time. No injuries were reported. Also on Tuesday, a slab avalanche released naturally and ran across the groomed trail to Granite Hot Springs in the Granite Creek drainage of the Hoback. This event released on a steep southeast facing slope at an elevation of around 7,000 feet. The Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center reports dangerous avalanche conditions at all elevations in the mountains of western Wyoming right now. Snowmobilers and backcountry recreationists should use extreme care in route finding and carry emergency response equipment.
