Memorial Service for Claude ‘Pappy’ Suffolk July 2 in LaBarge

Claude F. "Pappy" Suffolk, 91, of La Barge, Wyoming passed away at the Sublette Center in Pinedale on June 15, 2021. Pappy was born March 31, 1930 in Phoenix, Arizona to Claude James and Jewel Suffolk; He had one brother James Suffolk. He grew up in Arizona living the boyhood dream of slingshots, b.b. guns and plenty of roughhousing! After his formal childhood education, he joined the Marine Corps and served with the Army Infantry in the Korean War. After his time in the military he lived and worked on a ranch in Arizona and with the US Forest Service, Civilian Conservation Corps up until 1995 when he moved to LaBarge to live and work the Salli Ranch. Throughout his life Pappy was a blacksmith, knifemaker and a black powder-flintlock craftsman and was a lifelong member of the NRA. Pappy enjoyed hunting, flintlock pistol and rifle restoration, historical preservation, outdoor recreation, horseback riding, motorcycles and cooking and baking. Pappy enjoyed an occasional "Snifter of Old Overholt Rye Whiskey" offering his guests the same when the time was right. He baked goods of a richly American variety and even created his own type of dehydrated bananas called "Pappy’s Pacifiers". He practiced Kung Fu, Tae Kwan Do and was a Black Belt in Karate; and he had an unparalleled sense of humor! He is preceded in death by his parents Claude and Jewel Suffolk and his brother James Suffolk.
A memorial service will be held Friday July 2nd at 6:00 PM on the Green River just east of the Red Cliff Motel in La Barge, Wyoming. Memorial contributions in Pappy’s Memory can be sent to Leo Hakola at P.O. Box 7, La Barge, WY 83123 to help offset funeral expenses.
