The Golden Triangle
October 1, 2023
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) currently has its Rock Springs Draft Resource Management Plan (RMP) out for public review. The draft RMP covers 3.6 million acres managed by the BLM’s Rock Springs Field Office. The public comment period for the BLM Rock Springs Field Office RMP is currently open through November 16, 2023.
Retired Wyoming Game & Fish wildlife biologist Dan Stroud has sent in pictures showing some of the public land involved in this management area. These pictures may help those who are unfamiliar with the area to visualize some of the terrain under discussion that relates to wildlife values.
Stroud said the photos show the area informally called the "Golden Triangle," that stretches from Highway 28 and Farson, Wyoming, north to the Big Sandy River, and east of highway US 191 in the Green River Valley south of Pinedale. This is just a small portion of the area under management review. Although it looks like a desolate high desert landscape, Stroud said it has important wildlife values, including the largest population of sage grouse in the world, is an important spring/fall migration pathway for mule deer migration, and serves as winter range for mule deer, pronghorn and elk.
