Photographer Tanya Hamner brings ‘The American Cowboy’ to London

LONDON, UK – This May (2025), Wyoming-based photographer Tanya Hamner presents "The American Cowboy", a stunning exhibition at The Brick Lane Gallery in London, running from May 6th to May 19th. Through striking imagery, Hamner documents the grit, resilience, and tradition of the working cowboy, offering an intimate look into the lives of modern ranchers across Wyoming.
Featuring eight working ranches from Laramie County, Bridger Valley, Opal, Ranchester, Sublette County, Sweetwater County, The American Cowboy captures the untamed spirit of cattle ranching and horsemanship. Each photograph tells a story of endurance, connection to the land, and the unbreakable bond between cowboy and horse.
"The cowboy way is built on hard work, trust, and respect," says Hamner. "It’s about stewardship, community, and faith. This exhibition is my tribute to the people who embody those values every day."
Hamner, a rodeo photographer and photography professor at Western Wyoming Community College, grew up in Lyman working cattle, sheep and riding horses in Wyoming’s vast landscapes. Her firsthand experience in the ranching world allows her to capture authentic, unscripted moments, preserving a way of life that remains deeply rooted in tradition. She helps run the family sheep ranch in Pinedale, Wyoming.
Each image in The American Cowboy is presented as an archival pigment print on Hahnemühle Photo Rag with hand-torn edges, reinforcing the rugged, untamed beauty of the West.
"I want to thank the ranches that graciously opened their homes and allowed me to document their way of life. Without their trust, this project wouldn’t have been possible," she said.
Hamner’s work is recognized for its authentic storytelling, masterful composition, and emotional depth.
