This is a Tick
This tick was discovered over Memorial Day weekend by a hiker who had been walking through the sagebrush hills around Big Piney. Ticks are very small, about 1/4" in length, and this tick is magnified many times actual size.

Unwelcome hitchhikers
May 29, 2005

Anyone recreating outdoors in western Wyoming right now should be careful to inspect for ticks at the end of each day after their outings. Tick season is here and don’t be surprised if you find an unwelcome hitchhiker on your person after a hiking or fishing outing. Whether you are hiking through the forest or walking through the sagebrush hills looking for antlers, ticks will be there ready to grab onto your clothing as you brush past. There are many diseases that ticks can carry and pass on to humans including Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Colorado Tick Fever, Lymes Disease and Tularemia. In Wyoming, tick season lasts from early spring (mid-March) until about mid-July.
