Big Fish Winter Derby Results
Pinedale Boat Club Ice Fishing Derby on Fremont Lake
March 6, 2006

The Pinedale Boat Club held their annual Big Fish Ice Fishing Derby on Fremont Lake Saturday and Sunday, March 4-5, hosted by Lakeside Lodge. There were 315 anglers signed up for the event with 295 fishing on Saturday and 215 trying their luck on Sunday. The derby was held this year in honor of long-time Boat Club member Bud Davison.

Participants came from all over Wyoming, as well as from Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Montana and Texas. The derby saw 19 qualified entries on Saturday and 14 on Sunday with rules requiring a minimum length of 24 inches for Lake Trout or Macks and a 16-inch minimum for Browns and Rainbows. Only one fish over 20 inches could be entered each day.

Prizes were paid for first through fourth based on weight, along with one place each for largest Brown and largest Rainbow. Biggest fish of each hour also gathered prize money.

On Saturday, Kayle Cross of Rock Springs won first place with a 12-pound Laker to garner the $1000 prize. Ridge Larson of Pinedale took the top prize on Sunday with a 5.6 pound Mack.

In the youth class, for those 12 years of age and under, the top $100 prize on Saturday went to Garret Easton for his 2.4 pound Mack. Trevor Ginestar took first place on Sunday with a 3.6 pound Laker.

Some $5,400 in prize money was paid out to 21 lucky anglers, along with hundreds of drawing prizes furnished by over sixty businesses and individuals who helped sponsor the popular event. The Big Fish prize money was donated by Budwiser, Western Wyoming Beverage and the Boat Club. The Big Fish of the derby winner will have their fish mounted for free by Robert Ray. Trout Unlimited donated a Jiffy ice auger which was won by Rodney Rasmusson.

A highlight of the event was the donation by the Boat Club of $2,000 to Kickin’ Cancer in Sublette County with a check presented to Gene and April Lippincott by Boat Club Commodore Charlie Golden.
