Public comments sought for produced water
What to do with Coal Bed Methane water discharge
by Governor Freudenthal’s office
June 14, 2007

(Cheyenne) - The Coal Bed Methane Task Force is seeking public comment on two proposals to manage produced water in Wyoming.

The first proposal consists of suggestions from the State Engineer’s Office that address the quantity of CBM produced water discharge. The proposal puts forth that the discharge of produced water into a natural watercourse could be limited to the downstream capacity of the natural channel. It also holds that permit limits could be placed on the allowable gas-to-water production ratio from CBM wells.

Another proposal, called the Wyoming Produced Water Initiative, was developed by the Petroleum Association of Wyoming, the Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation and other groups. Those who developed the initiative said it was created to help landowners and mineral developers find common ground in disputes. The task force will incorporate public comment when considering whether or not it should endorse the initiative.

Both proposals are available at the CBM Task Force web site: www.wycbmwater.gov. Follow the link “Task Force Request Public Comment.”

Comments should be received by June 27, 2007 and can be e-mailed to:
cbmcomment@state.wy.us or sent to: CBM Task Force Coordinator, P.O. Box 249, Wheatland, WY, 82201.
