(Rock Springs) - Juniors and seniors attending Big Piney and Pinedale High Schools have the opportunity to increase their ACT test scores by taking a free ACT Test Preparation class in Big Piney in July and August. Participants will also receive the free text, The Real ACT Prep Guide, valued at $25.
Offered by the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) for Big Piney and Marbleton and Western Wyoming Community College’s GEAR UP program, the class is scheduled Monday mornings, July 16 through August 20, from 9 a.m. to noon at Big Piney High School and Wednesday evenings, July 18 through August 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Big Piney Middle School. Monday classes will focus on mathematics and Wednesday classes will focus on English and reading. The classes will be taught by Wyoming certified instructors.
WWCC offers a variety of scholarships which require specific minimum ACT scores, such as 27 for the college’s Superior Student Scholarship. Western’s Hathaway Scholarships require an ACT composite of at least 25 for the Honors Award, 21 for the Performance Award, 19 for the Opportunity Award and 17 (or Workkeys score of 12) for the Career Award. Many other WWCC scholarships are also available. “Higher ACT scores can help students earn higher scholarship awards,” said Jocelyn Moore, WWCC GEAR UP representative in Sublette County.
