by Pinedale Online!
July 4, 2007

The annual Big Piney Chuckwagon Days are always held over the 4th of July. The celebration lasts several days and includes an early-morning walk/run, a parade down main street in Big Piney, a free BBQ cookout, a Lil' Buckaroo Rodeo for youngsters up to age 13, WRA-IMPRA rodeo, fireworks on July 4th, and a street dance.

The WRA-IMPRA Rodeo was held at the rodeo grounds at the Fairgrounds. The Chuckwagon Days Rodeo is the highest paying Rodeo in the Mountain West over the 4th of July.

The 4th of July, called the "Cowboy Christmas", is when cowboys from all over go to as many rodeos as they can in order to compete and earn winnings to raise their standings for the year.

This year was the 73rd annual Big Piney Chuckwagon Days Rodeo. Events included bareback, calf roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronc, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding.

One cowboy, Ty Anderson, was injured this year at the end of his ride when he was slammed into the arena fence. Sublette County EMS crews attended him and took him away in an ambulance. Fortunately, his injuries were only a broken foot and he will recover.

Matt Bombard returned again this year to announce the rodeo. Professional Rodeo Clown and Funnyman Scooter Culbertson entertained the crowd with his zany costumes and skits. The stock contractor was Elkhorn Rodeo Company. Funnyman sponsors were Truth Ministries and the Town of Marbleton. Announcer Sponsor was Phil's Water Service.

Buckle Donors were: Bull Riding-A&B Construction; Saddle Bronc-Shell Rocky Mountain Productions LLC; Bareback-E&L Motors;, Calf Roping-EOG Resources; Steer Wrestling-Cottonwood Capital; Barrel Racing-Town of Marbleton; Breakaway Roping-EOG Resources; Team Roping/Header-Saul Bencomo & Holly Green; Team Roping/Heeler-Cowboy Shop.
