Ozone Forum scheduled for Oct. 7 in Pinedale
by University of Wyoming
September 22, 2008 | Revised September 24, 2008

(Pinedale) - Citizens of Sublette County will have the opportunity to learn more about ozone air quality and the potential health effects of ozone at a public information forum featuring leading experts from around the nation.

The forum will take place at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 7 in the auditorium at Pinedale High School, 147 E. Hennick, in Pinedale.

The public forum is being convened by the University of Wyoming's Ruckelshaus Institute and Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. The event is being sponsored by the Sublette County Commissioners.

The Ozone Public Information Forum is the result of increased concerns by local residents on the impacts of ozone to air quality in Pinedale and the area, and was designed to better inform the public about the science, human health and policy implications of air quality in the Upper Green River Basin.

Presentations by nationally-known experts will include:
-- Atmospheric Chemistry of Ozone , by Derek Montague, Department of Atmospheric Science, University of Wyoming.
-- Human Health Effects of Ozone, by Dr. Frederick J. Miller, vice president for research (retired), the CIIT Centers for Health Research, Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. (Revised 9/24/08: Dr. Miller replaces Dr. David Peden, who had to cancel.)
-- National Regulatory Policy on Ozone, by Rogene Henderson, chair of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee Ozone Review Panel, and senior scientist emeritus, Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute, Albuquerque, N.M.
-- Regulatory Implementation of Ozone Standards, by Peter Hess, deputy air pollution officer (retired), Bay Area Air Quality Management District, San Francisco, Calif.

Members of the public will also have the opportunity to participate in the forum during a question and answer period scheduled with the experts.

This information forum has been requested by a number of stakeholder groups, including the Sublette County Commissioners, the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality, a number of citizen and interest groups, and industry.
