One man now controls fate of new timber sales & road construction for Forest Service in roadless areas
Memo 1042-154 changes delegation of authority for decision-making in inventoried roadless areas administered by the Forest Service to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack
June 16, 2009

Derek Farr wrote an interesting article in the June 15th Sublette Examiner about a new interim directive that was sent out by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture in late May that puts all decision-making authority over the construction and reconstruction of roads and the cutting, sale, or removal of timber in inventoried roadless areas on certain lands administered by the Forest Service at the sole discretion of the Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack. The directive is in full force and effect for one year.
