Original post, Thursday, June 4, 2009:
Recent rains have caused water levels to rise and some flooding in some areas of local streams. The Green River has topped its banks in places. Horse Creek is overflowing near Daniel. Fields along the Cottonwood Creeks along US 189 are inundated with overflow. To date, we have not heard of any damage or alerts about the rising water in our area.

Rising water caused Wyoming Department of Transportation to close US 30/287 in both directions from 11 miles north of Laramie to Medicine Bow in eastern Wyoming due to flooding of the Medicine Bow River on Wednesday. The road remained closed Thursday while two dozen WYDOT engineers, construction and maintenance crews remained on the scene trying to repair damage when high water flooded a bridge detour Wednesday evening and made the road impassable.

WYDOT has advised travelers looking to get between Medicine Bow and Laramie to take US 30/287 to WYO 72 south and jump on I-80 east. Reverse that if going the other direction. Local traffic only is being allowed on US 30/287 out of Laramie to WYO 13 at Rock River. Motorists in that area are encouraged to check for conditions before they travel by visiting the website http://www.wyoroad.info/highway/conditions/dist1.html. Road status information is also available by calling 511 within Wyoming or 1-888-WYO-ROAD toll-free nationwide for the latest information.
