Through a grant funded by the Daniel’s Fund, 4-H members from the southwest district gathered at the University of Wyoming Campus to spend two-days touring the University and learning about college preparedness.

Youth started their two-day venture with tours of college departments where professors and Department Heads showed youth around their facilities, while explaining about degree possibilities, internships, scholarship opportunities, what classes to take prior to college, work study, and career opportunities upon graduation. Youth were able to see first-hand what opportunities await them at the University of Wyoming in regards to advanced education.

From there youth met with staff that led them through a personality assessment that linked them to careers that match their personalities, to help facilitate the thought process of selecting a field of study. Financial aid representatives explained the expected expenses for a 4-year degree and resources that could help youth work through those expenses such as grants, loans, scholarships and more.

Youth were introduced to college activities including the "Little International" Livestock show, shopping at the Brown & Gold Stores, tailgating and a football game. This educational event included team building and leadership activities along with a community service project at the livestock facilities.

Three County 4-H Programs including Sublette, Lincoln and Uinta, were represented at the event. Youth attending from Sublette County included: Nikki Wadsworth, Sydney Pape, Liz Shaffer, Ethan Wolaver, Jenny Beiermann, Logan Barlow, Emilee Sims, Tazia Morgart, Ashlin Applin, Sharon Moreno and Jessie Connor.

4-H is the youth arm of the University of Wyoming’s Cooperative Extension Service, and its state offices are located in the College of Agriculture.
