SUBLETTE COUNTY – Committed to investing in Wyoming’s local youth and building a sustainable, future workforce, Encana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc. awarded scholarships to John Fenn of Pinedale High School and David Lovato of Big Piney High School. John and David have demonstrated potential for leadership, solid community service and outstanding academic achievement, in addition to a commitment to work toward a career in the oil and gas industry.

Encana’s four-year scholarship is given annually to one graduating student in each school district where Encana operates. The full value of each scholarship is $10,000 over four years. The student must pursue a degree in engineering, geology or geophysics, or a technical or trade program associated with the oil and gas industry such as surface land administration or production technology.

John plans to study Engineering at the University of Wyoming this fall. Enthusiastic, intelligent and hard-working, John interacts well with his peers and has been a strong contributor in team sports such as basketball and baseball, as well as individual sports like swimming and golf.

A four-time Honor Roll student, John’s maturity and work ethic have earned him the Distinguished Scholastic Achievement Award and a membership to the National Honor Society (NHS). Through the NHS, John has also become more involved in the community. "This past Christmas season, our NHS Club passed out stockings filled with goodies to the people in the retirement center," said John. "Seeing their spirits lift and smiles made all the difference."

"After graduation, I plan to attend the University of Wyoming and major in Engineering." Said John. "I hope to expand my knowledge in engineering topics and use what I learn to succeed."

David plans to study Chemical Engineering at Boise State University. As a Big Brothers Big Sisters mentor, the youth of the community look to David as an example. "I am very proud to be a part of Big Brothers," said David. "It is rewarding to be able to make a difference in someone’s life. I feel it is important to contribute to the community."

Active in several school activities, David’s motivation and discipline has made him excel in football and track. David also works hard in the classroom and has received an academic letter and honor roll listing multiple times.

"Throughout my life, I have always been self-motivated and competitive in all aspects," said David. "I want to be a Chemical Engineer and feel that this scholarship will carry me through college and a future career. I will always do my best."

This year, Encana awarded six scholarships across Wyoming. The scholarship is awarded directly to the student and can be used for any college-related financial need, including tuition and fees, textbooks and rent.

"We are proud to see John and David rewarded for their dedication and achievements," said Randy Teeuwen, Encana community relations advisor. "To reach our full potential as an industry, we need the best and most promising people. John and David have proven themselves to be superb both in and out of the classroom, and we believe they will thrive in all of their future endeavors."
