Sublette County Library management changes
Director Daphne Platts to retire
by Sublette County Library Board
July 15, 2010
The Sublette County Library Board is excited to announce that with the impending retirement of Library Director Daphne Platts – who has served county library patrons for nearly three decades – management changes are soon to come.
Sidney Stanfill will take over as Library Director, and Sukey Hohl will move into the newly created position of Director of Library Services.
Board member Patty Washburn explained the new structure: "As our community has grown and use of technology for information has grown, so has our library system. We are rising to meet the needs of the community by making adjustments to the library operational structure, by creating two divisions of upper level management: Administration/Personnel, and Library Services."
Board member Laurie Latta noted that Sidney’s strengths suit him for the Library Director position, including his proven track record of creating linkages with community groups in his 15 years of public library management experience in Wyoming and Colorado. Sidney has a special interest in outreach efforts, and the Big Piney Branch Library, because of his branch management experience. He acknowledges that each community has unique aspects, so programming must be tailored to each community, under the umbrella of a countywide system.
"One size does not fit all when it comes to branch services," he said. "It is important to uphold the same high standards for customer service and community engagement across all locations while allowing the latitude for customized services and collections."
Sukey’s 13 years of leadership experience in the Sublette County Library system and her in-depth knowledge of technological and professional development issues has served the library system well. This new position will grant Sukey more latitude and responsibility to provide leadership over technology and information services for the entire library system.
"We are fortunate to have such highly qualified and dedicated individuals to fill these positions and we expect them to work well together," board member Cat Urbigkit said.
Outgoing Library Board President Laurie Latta also noted that the board would like to extent its gratitude to the library patrons and staff members who served on interview committees during the selection process.
Although the next few months will be a time of transition for the Sublette County Library system, it will be filled with fun and opportunity, as we celebrate Daphne’s retirement and welcome the new staff structure. Watch the news for upcoming events related to both items in the coming weeks.
