Freudenthal joins UW faculty as Distinguished Visiting Professor

December 17, 2010

LARAMIE - Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal will join the University of Wyoming College of Law as a distinguished visiting professor for three semesters starting in spring 2011.

Freudenthal, who will complete his second term as governor on Jan. 3, 2011, will lead a seminar in energy, law and economics. While his appointment is to the College of Law, it's anticipated that he may also work on special projects with the UW College of Business and the UW School of Energy Resources.

"I am pleased to work on this, and I am looking forward to it," Freudenthal says.

Freudenthal, who is a 1980 graduate of the UW College of Law, has a vast knowledge of energy and natural resource issues, not only in Wyoming but across the United States, and he will be an invaluable resource to university students, says UW President Tom Buchanan.

"We're honored that he's accepted our invitation to join our faculty as a visiting professor. This is a tremendous opportunity for our students to learn firsthand from the state's top executive who has such extensive knowledge about Wyoming law, government, economics, and history," Buchanan says.

Before serving as governor, Freudenthal worked in the state Department of Economic Planning and Development as an economist and later became the state planning director for Gov. Ed Herschler.

After graduating from the UW College of Law, Freudenthal entered private practice. In 1994, he was appointed U.S. attorney for Wyoming, and remained in there until 2001.

He was elected to his first term as governor in 2002, and he was reelected four years later.
