JIO-PAPO extends Mule Deer funding application deadline to Dec. 30
To address issues brought to light by recent mule deer study
by Bureau of Land Management
December 3, 2010

The Jonah Interagency Office (JIO) and Pinedale Anticline Project Office (PAPO) are extending the deadline for mule deer project funding applications to Dec. 30.

To address the issues brought to light by the recent mule deer study, the JIO/PAPO is calling for projects that will benefit the mule deer population in proximity to the Pinedale Anticline Project Area.

Applicants are encouraged to visit the JIO/PAPO website at http://www.wy.blm.gov/jio-papo/ and review the JIO/PAPO strategic plans and mitigation goals to ensure that proposed projects fall within appropriate parameters. Applicants are also encouraged to visit the Jonah Infill Drilling Project and the Pinedale Anticline Project Area Records of Decision at http://www.blm.gov/wy/st/en/field_offices/Pinedale.html

The Funding Application (http://www.wy.blm.gov/jio-papo/jio/index.htm for JIO projects or http://www.wy.blm.gov/jio-papo/papo/index.htm for PAPO projects) should be used by applicants. Supporting documentation establishing the value and relevance of the proposal to JIO or PAPO goals is required and will be used to evaluate applications.

All applications will be evaluated by the JIO/PAPO based on the likelihood of producing positive mitigation results for mule deer. Recommendations will be forwarded to the governing Board of Directors and a final decision made in March. There is no guarantee that an application will be funded.

Project applications and supporting documentation can be submitted by email to: JIO_WYMail@blm.gov (files larger than 3 MB cannot be accepted) or as hard copy to: JIO/PAPO, P.O. Box 768, 1625 W. Pine St., Pinedale, WY 82941. Receipt of applications will be verified with senders within five business days.

Additional information is available at http://www.wy.blm.gov/jio-papo/docs/applicationguidelines.pdf or contact John MacDonald, Acting JIO/PAPO Project Coordinator, at 307-367-5386, or Shane DeForest, Pinedale Field Manager, at 307-367-5302.
