‘The King and I’ Nov. 16-19

Licensing from Rogers and Hammerstein Theatricals in New York City has been granted to the Pinedale Community Theatre for the 2011 fall musical theatre production of The King and I.
Performances will be November 16, 17, 18 & 19.
Children’s auditions are August 6. Adult auditions are September 9 & 10, and dancer auditions will be on September 8.
The King and I features a large cast of 55, including lead roles for 3 women, 2 men and 2 noys. There are additional roles for children ages 5 to12 as the 12 Royal Princes and Princesses. There is a large ensemble of Royal Dancers, Royal Wives, Children, Priests and Amazons. This show has something for everyone. There are singing roles, speaking roles as well as roles that don’t require acting, singing or dancing. A production this size also requires many community volunteers.
The DVD of the movie with Yul Brynner’s Oscar-winning performance as the King of Siam and Deborah Kerr as the English widow who comes to Bangkok in the 1860's to serve as the governess to the children of the King is available at Sublette County Library in Pinedale. Also at the library is the original story of Anna and The King by Margaret Landon and Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe, a book written in 1852 about slavery in the United States which is the basis for the Thai dance and story "Small House of Uncle Thomas" in the second act.
