Jackson woman killed in backcountry skiing avalanche accident
Liza Gray Benson fatally injured after being swept into a tree

At approximately 3:25 p.m. Sunday, January 27, the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office received a call of an injured back country skier in the Cliff Creek / Cabin Creek area west of Bondurant. During the course of the call the subject was pronounced deceased by a physician who was part of the 5 person ski group. Twenty-eight-year-old Elizabeth "Liza" Gray Benson of Jackson, Wyoming was swept downhill by a small avalanche/slide which carried her into the timber, striking a tree.

A recovery is currently underway with the assistance of Tip Top Search and Rescue and Teton County Search and Rescue.

The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office expresses its condolences to the family of Ms. Benson.
