LocalFest 2013 seeks presentations & workshops for May local festival
by Sublette Local Food Alliance
February 8, 2013

Sublette Local Food Alliance (SLFA) recently released a Call For Presentations for LocalFest 2013 to be held in Pinedale, Wyoming May 14th to 18th. SLFA is a not-for-profit organization promoting the development of local food resources and community food security. Its aim is to improve the local economy and quality of life in Western Wyoming by supporting local food systems and economies through education and promotion.

LocalFest 2013 will bring together hundreds of individuals from across the Rocky Mountain West, who are engaged in all aspects of "localness" including local economies, food and distribution. The conference includes hands on workshops, keynote speakers, a film festival, and visits to local farms, henhouses and community gardens. This year's Keynote Speaker is Sally Fallon Morell.

Sally Fallon Morell is a journalist, chef, nutrition researcher, homemaker, farmer, and community activist. She is the leading spokesperson for a return to nutrient-dense diets including raw milk, animal fats, organ meats, bone broths and lacto-fermented foods. Not only is she the founding president of the Weston A. Price Foundation and the founder of A Campaign for Real Milk, she is the author of the best-selling nutritional cookbook Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats. This well-researched, thought-provoking guide to traditional foods contains a startling message: Animal fats and cholesterol are not villains but vital factors in the diet, necessary for normal growth, proper function of the brain and nervous system, protection from disease and optimum energy levels.

SLFA is seeking a diverse group of presenters to share a wide range of information about local economies, local food and general "localness", including the following topic areas: Raising Livestock for the Local Market, Season Extension, Backyard Chickens, Harvest Preservation, Fermented Foods, High Altitude Cultivars, Egg Production, Pastured Poultry, Goats for Milk or Meat, Small Animal Production, Marketing Your Farm Products, Alternative Energy, Seed Starting, Beekeeping, Composting, Seed Saving, Soil Basics, Thinking Locally, Local Micro-Loan Programs, Farmlink Program, Container Gardening, Gardening for Recreation & Health, Beneficial Insects, Barter & Local Currency Systems, Genetically Modified Foods.

Sponsorships of LocalFest 2013 are also available.
